5 Reasons Travel Advisors are essential in an unpredictable world

When global travel came to a halt in 2020, many predicted that digital platforms would permanently replace travel advisors.

The opposite has happened.

As travel resumed, it did not simply recover—it transformed. It became more complex, more valuable, and significantly less predictable. What began as a post-pandemic shift has evolved into a broader reality: uncertainty is now a constant in global travel.

In this environment, expert human guidance is no longer optional—it is essential.

Here are five reasons why.

1. A shift in traveler behavior

Today’s traveler is more intentional. Decisions are driven by confidence, flexibility, and trust, not just price.

Research shows that 44% of travelers are more likely to use a travel advisor after the pandemic (Travel Agent Central, 2023).

At the same time, the share of bookings made through agencies is projected to grow to around 26% by 2026 (Host Agency Reviews, 2024).

This signals a clear shift toward human expertise in travel planning.

2. Travel has become more complex

Travel today involves changing regulations, operational disruptions, and increased global demand.

International bookings rose by 28% in early 2025 compared to 2024 (Travel Operations, 2025).

Data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows that total full-year traffic in 2024 rose 10.4% compared to 2023. This was 3.8% above pre-pandemic (2019) levels. Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), was up 8.7% in 2024. The overall load factor reached 83.5%, a record for full-year traffic.

In this context, travel advisors are no longer just booking trips—they are managing complexity and reducing risk.

This combination of high demand and operational fragility has increased the likelihood of delays, cancellations, and logistical breakdowns.

As a result, travel advisors have evolved beyond booking roles—they now function as navigators of systemic complexity and disruption.

3. Global uncertainty extends beyond health crises

The pandemic was not an isolated disruption—it exposed how vulnerable travel is to broader global forces.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025 identifies geopolitical instability and climate-related events among the most significant risks shaping global mobility in the coming decade. These include sudden regional conflicts, extreme weather events, and infrastructure stress.

Such disruptions are often unpredictable and immediate in impact.

In this context, travelers are not just seeking protection policies—they are seeking responsive, real-time problem solving.

Because when disruption occurs far from home, access to information is not enough. What matters is the ability to act quickly and effectively.

4. Demand for personalized travel is growing

Travelers are prioritising meaningful and customized experiences over standard packages. They are increasingly choosing agency bookings because they offer greater protection, clearer policies, and support during disruptions.

This shift reinforces the advisor’s role as a designer of experiences, not just a provider of services.

As the financial and emotional investment in travel increases, so does the expectation of precision and seamless execution.

This reinforces the advisor’s role as a strategic designer of high-value experiences, where errors or disruptions carry greater consequences.

5. Human support provides what technology cannot

While digital platforms offer convenience, they often lack clarity and accountability.

The continued recovery of the agency sector (Skift, 2025) highlights a growing reliance on human judgment and personalized support.

When disruptions occur, travelers value not just information—but someone responsible for solving the problem.

This is where human expertise becomes indispensable.

Travelers are not looking for automated responses. They are looking for real support:

A human being who understands context, urgency, and nuance — someone who knows what you need, when you need it.

Absolute certainty is impossible in travel, as it is in life.

What matters is not eliminating uncertainty, but having a trusted partner who can navigate it with you.

At Novium Travel, we see this not as a temporary shift, but as a structural evolution.

Our role is not transactional—it is strategic.

We design journeys with precision, anticipate risks across multiple scenarios, and remain present throughout the experience. In a fragmented and unpredictable travel landscape, we provide what matters most:

clarity, continuity, and trust.

Because today, true luxury is not just where you go—

it is how confidently and seamlessly you get there, no matter what changes along the way.
